Evaluator comments: Nice head, neck and stature on this doe. Nice back and rump, with correct rear leg angle. The foreleg is placed too far forward, due to her lack of body capacity in the front end assembly. She is very shallow in the chest floor and lacking extension to brisket and depth of heart girth. In the front view it really shows how shallow she is in the chest floor. Also lacking length to the forecanon bone. Over the top, I’d like to see more shape and width to the forerib. She does show nice shape to the rump and levelness from thurl to thurl. Rear legs rear view show she is nice and perpendicular. In the mammary system she shows a nice balance of width to the rear udder from top to bottom, as well as adequate area of attachment. She has a very nice shape to the udder floor, with nice teat shape, and placement. The mammary system has a nice balance and symmetry when viewed from the side. The fore udder is well extended to the sides, however would like to see more smoothness of blending into the body wall. Very strong mammary system on this doe, so when selecting a buck, be sure not to lose mammary system qualities. I would look to add body capacity, particularly front end assembly.

Evaluator comments: Would like to see a bit stronger head and longer ear on this doe. She lacks depth to the lower jaw and width between the eye, with more sculpting around the eye and nostril. Her neck is a bit short and lacks some smoothness of blending of neck into withers. The foreleg is set too far forward, again due to some deficiencies in the front end assembly and chest. She lacks depth into the chest floor, extension of brisket and fullness to the fore rib. The forelegs are straight both in side profile and front view, however would like to see both fore and rear canon bones longer. She has nice length and straightness to the back, however the rump is very steep. The rump is lacking length from hips to pins and the unbalanced length between rump, femur and canon does not allow her to have appropriate angle to the rear legs from the side. Rear leg rear view does appear perpendicular through the hock, however would like to see her a bit straighter from the fetlock to the rear pastern. Over the top she shows nice width and balance to the rump, however is lacking the length to the rump. In the mammary system, I would like to see the rear udder held higher up into the pelvic girdle, with more balance to the placement between the hocks. The rear udder shows a nice shape, however lacking in strength to the medial suspensory ligament. Also the teat placement is wide. In fore udder she is lacking fullness and extension to the side as well as lacking smoothness of attachment to the body wall. Part of the problem here with the fore udder on this doe, is due to the lack of body capacity this doe has. She lacks depth into the flank, that would help push this udder back and allow more smooth attachment. For buck selection look for body capacity and mammary system strength.

Evaluator comments: Very correct side profile on this doe. Nice length of neck that blends smoothly into a well angulated shoulder in side profile. The forelegs are placed correctly under the withers, however would like to see the forelegs a bit straighter in side profile, with a cleaner more flat bone and more length to the canon bone both fore and rear. The lack of length to the canon is also causing her to lack a bit of stature. Over the top I’d like to see the crops fuller with more shape to the foreribs. She shows nice shape to the barrel, however is lacking in width to the loin. The rear leg is lacking a bit of correct angle, due to the lack of length to the canon as well. Also would like to see the rump longer from hip to pin with a higher thurl placement. Really like the depth of body this doe has back into the flank. In the mammary system she shows balance and symmetry to the udder when viewed from the side, however would like to see the rear udder higher, with more area of attachment and more arch shaped at the top of the udder. I’d like to see the fore udder a bit smoother, and the teat placement more medial. Overall this doe is really correct. She has a lot of bone, so for buck selection, I’d be looking for length of bone, and mammary system qualities.

Evaluator comments: Really nice head and neck on this doe. She has wonderful stature with the withers taller than the hips and a correct silhouette in side profile. The forelegs are placed properly under the withers and the only thing I would like to change would be a little straighter in the knee. Very correct back and rump on this doe also. She has very nice rear leg angulation from the side as well. The front end assembly is also nice and balanced from the front, with wide placed straight legs. She’s deep and wide in the chest floor and also deep in the heart girth with increasing depth back into the flank. Rear legs rear view I’d like to see the rear legs a bit more perpendicular. The rump is well balanced and shows nice levelness from thurl to thurl. Over the top I really love this does body shape, she has width and spring from the fore rib, all the way back to the loin. In the mammary system, she has a really nice shape to the rear udder and the udder floor. The teats could be slightly more medial, however they have nice length and delineation. The fore udder looks to be well attached, however would like to see it a bit wider and more smoothly blended. This is a very correct doe, so when selecting a buck try to focus on the mammary system and not lose the other qualities she has.

Evaluator comments: Nice upstanding doe. She has nice sharp withers, and her neck blends smoothly into the shoulder. I would like to see the shoulder with a bit more angle and more extension of brisket and depth of chest. She does have a well placed foreleg and is very straight in side profile. Very nice back and rump with nice length of rump from hip to pins. The rear legs are nicely angle from the side profile, however I would like them to be more perpendicular with the pins when viewed from the rear. In side profile, while she is full at the point of elbow she lacks the increasing depth into the flank. Over the top I really appreciate the shape this doe has to her fore rib and barrel. In the mammary system while I’m not sure she is full in these pictures, I would still like to see more balance and symmetry to the udder when viewed from the side. She is lacking capacity to the rear udder. From the rear she has a nice shape to the rear udder arch as well as shape to the udder floor in the medial suspensory ligament. I would like to see the teats more medial. In the fore udder she is a bit short in fore, however her lack of depth in the flank is also what is allowing that fore udder to shelf and “sling” forward. Over all she is a very solid doe and the focus when breeding should be to try and help with udder and body capacity (depth) without losing the good traits.

Evaluator comments: This doe is a little bit of a conundrum. When you look at her head, she shows so much strength and depth. Open nostril, well balanced jaw and sculpting around the eye. Then her neck is so short and not set very well into her shoulder. The shoulder is a bit vertical and she is not deep in the chest or heart girth. She has a lot of spring of rib and nice shape to her barrel, however lacks the increasing depth into the flank. Her back is nice and straight and she has adequate stature, however her rump is extremely short from hips to thurls and the rump, femur and canon are all out of proportion which is what is causing her rear leg to be so straight in the hock. When looking from the front the shoulder is more narrow at the top than the bottom and the forelegs are a bit turned out. Over the top it is easy to see how narrow she is in the fore rib and crops. She is also narrow in the loin and you can see how unbalanced the rump is in length and width. In the mammary system when viewed from the side, I’d like to see more of the rear udder and the udder is placed quite low in the escutcheon. I do appreciate the shape of the rear udder, as well as her strong medial suspensory, however would like to see the teats a bit more medial and also a bit larger. The fore udder is actually pretty correct, she is just lacking the depth in the flank and a bit of capacity into the middle of the fore. When thinking about breeding plans for this doe, I think general appearance should be first, try to add length of bone throughout and correct body capacity.

Evaluator comments: The side profile photo on this doe is a bit hard to evaluate her front end, however she does appear to have a nice length of neck and sharp withers. Her shoulder appears a bit vertical and the foreleg is placed too far forward. She does have very nice straight forelegs and correct length of pasterns and shape to the hoofs. From the front view she shows a very nice balance of width to the front end assembly, with straight , widely placed forelegs, however she does lack depth in the chest floor. She has a nice straight back and adequate length of rump from hip to pin and she has a very nice rear leg angle from the side. I’d like to see her a bit deeper at the point of elbow and deeper in the heart girth. Over the top she shows correct shape to the foreribs and fullness in the crops. She has a nice balance of length to her body , loin and rump, however I would like to see the loin a bit wider at the junction of the hip. Rear legs rear view shows she is fairly perpendicular with good width in the escutcheon and width between the hocks. In the mammary system I’d like to see her with more balance and capacity to the rear udder when viewed from the side. In the rear udder she shows a good area of udder attachment and correct shape to the udder floor, however would like to see the teats placed more medially. Her fore udder appears to be smoothly attached and has nice width. For breeding selections, I would really focus on body capacity and mammary system qualities.

Evaluator comments: Very nice side profile on this doe. She has a long lean neck, with sharp prominent withers. She has nice stature being taller at the wither than the hip, and she has a nice strong straight back with correct proportions to the rump. She has very nice rear leg angulation from the side, and from the rear the rear legs are fairly perpendicular, however I would like to see from the fetlock down be straighter. The forelegs show a nice length of bone pattern throughout and are placed correctly under the withers and straight in side profile. I would like to see the forelegs a bit straighter when viewed from the front. Also in the front view I would like to see the chest floor a bit deeper. Over the top she could have a bit more shape to the foreribs, with a bit more fullness of crops, however she has nice balance to the length of body. I’d like to see her loin a bit wider in the junction of the hip, however she has a very nice rump shape. In the mammary system this doe is very correct overall. I also wanted to point out with this doe, why her udder is able to be held up into the escutcheon and why she is able to have the correct rear udder arch. This is due to her rump structure. She has enough length from hip to thurl, and thurl to pin, as well as having the thurls higher up which allows the rear udder arch to be higher. I think this doe is probably recently fresh in this photo, and the appearance of lacking medial suspensory cleft is probably going to improve as she progresses in this lactation as well as future lactations. The teat placement is also quite wide right now however that may improve slightly as she ages. The fore udder is exceptional, being full to the sides and snugly attached. A lot of really nice qualities with this doe, so when looking to breed her be sure not to lose the udder and rump qualities she has. Look for bucks who consistently make good feet and legs.

Evaluator comments: Very nice neck into withers, with correct stature on this doe. She has a nice angle to the shoulder when viewed from the side, however would like to see the foreleg placed more under the withers and for her to be deeper in the chest floor and heart girth. Her front end in front view is very balanced in width from top to bottom with nice width between the forelegs. I would like to see both the fore and rear canon bones be longer. She has a nice straight back and the length of rump from hip to thurl is nice, however she looks recently fresh and she has a bit of prominence to the dorsal process of the rump. When looking at the rump from over the top however she shows good balance to the hips and thurls and length so she may grow out of that. She has adequate rear leg angulation from the side. She has a nice length of body, however she is really lacking the feminine shape to her body, with no depth into the flank. In the mammary system she lacks a bit of capacity and balance to the mammary system. She looks to have adequate area of udder attachment and shape to the udder floor and medial suspensory. I would also like to see the top of the rear udder more balanced in width with the bottom of the udder as well as having more arch to the escutcheon. When looking at buck selection look for strong mammary systems and good body capacity.

Evaluator comments: Really awkward side profile photo on this doe, so I'm not going to be able to be really accurate about the placement of forelegs or angle of the rear legs from the side, however I can see that she has a nice length of bone pattern throughout, with nice balance to the canon bones nice pasterns and correct hoof shape. She also has a very nice head and ear shape, set on a nice long lean neck that blends smoothly into a well angled shoulder blade and prominent withers. She has a nice length of back, however could be a bit stronger and straighter in the area of the chine. When looking over the top you can see that she lacks some fore rib shape, and width to the chest when compared to the width of her rump. When looking over the top she has a nice spring to the rib and a nice balance of length and width to the rump. When looking at her from the front, she has nice depth to the chest floor with width between the fore legs, however I would like to see the shoulder assembly more balanced in width from top to bottom. Rear legs rear view I’d like to see the lower legs a bit wider and the pastern a bit straighter. She is a bit “base narrow” both front and rear. In the mammary system she has a very nice shape to the rear udder with correct shape to the udder floor and delineation of the udder halves with the medial suspensory ligament. She also has a nice arch shape to the rear udder and the udder is held up into the escutcheon with balance in width of the rear udder from top to bottom. Only thing I’d change would be to move the teat placement more medial. In the fore udder she has a nice shape to the fore, however is lacking fullness and capacity to the medial and where the fore ties into the body wall. Overall a very nice doe, so when breeding look to try and work on one trait, like fore udders, or teat placement.

Generation: 1 Lactation: 1 Owner comments:
Evaluator comments: Long neck and length of body on this doe. She has nice sharp withers and a long back and rump from hip to thurl, however she is really short from thurl to pin, and the rear legs are unbalanced in canon, and femur length. In the front end assembly this doe has some major issues. The shoulder blade is much too short, and therefore makes the angle of the shoulder much too steep and she also has an incredibly short canon bone, when compared to her forearm bone which is really making the whole shoulder and front leg weak. In the front view you can see she is quite shallow in the chest as well as the heart girth and I’d like to see the forelegs point more correctly forward. Over the top she has a lot of length to her body however for how long her back and loin is , her rump is really short from hip to pins. In the mammary system this doe looks really productive with a lot of capacity to the fore udder. I would like to see the mammary system have more balance in capacity both fore and rear. When looking at the rear udder she is lacking a bit of udder support from the rear udder lateral attachments and the top of the escutcheon is very narrow in comparison to the bottom of the rear udder. She does have a nice shape to the udder floor however would like to see the teats more medial. In the fore
udder she is actually pretty wide and full, she just lacks the body capacity and depth to the body in the flank to hold the udder back under the pelvic girdle more appropriately. For breeding selections, really focus on front end assemblies and body shape.

Evaluator comments: Nice head and ear on this doe, as well as having a really long lean neck coming down into the sharp prominent withers and she has a nice shoulder angle. Forelegs are placed correctly under the wither, with a nice length of pastern and shape to the hoof. She could be slightly deeper in the chest floor although she is very correct in her front end assembly. When viewed from the front she is very correct, with balanced shoulders and straight well balanced leg bones. In the rear view I’d like to see the rear legs a bit more perpendicular particularly from the hock down. She appears to have a nice rump, with balance and the thurls placed more appropriately . Over the top she shows a nice body shape, however I would like to see her loin a bit longer and wider at the junction of the hip. In the rear leg she is almost slightly over angulated, but it’s not too bad. If her rump was a bit longer from thurl to pin she would be more balanced. In the mammary system I would like to see her with more capacity and shape to the udder when viewed from the side. In the rear udder she lacks width at the top of the udder and the arch shape to the top of the escutcheon. She does have lovely shape to the udder floor, medial and teat shape and placement. In fore udder she really lacks much extension of fore. For breeding considerations I would focus on udder trait improvements without losing the strong conformation qualities this doe has.
Milking Yearlings

3rd generation Lactation: 1 Owner comments:
Evaluator comments: This looks like a very dairy productive young doe. She has a nice head and ear and a very long clean neck. She has a nice prominent wither and she has a very correct shoulder assembly both from the side and the front. Yearlings go through so many hip high growing phases that although she is lower in the front right now, I'm sure she will mature fine, because she shows the appropriate balance and length to her leg bones. Really correct placement of the foreleg under the withers and I really appreciate the depth of chest floor and shape to the brisket on such a young doe. She has correct shape and strength to the back, however she really lacks some length to the rump from hip to pins. The rear legs look well angled and with good balance. In body capacity she shows quite a bit of depth to the flank in side profile and over the top she has very good shape to the fore ribs and crops. Over the top we can also see the short rump although it is balanced in width of hip and width of thurls. In the rear view photo it is really easy to see that her rump is narrow and high at the dorsal process. Her rear legs rear view are nice and perpendicular. In the mammary system she has a lot of capacity and shape from the side. In the rear udder she has a nice shape to the rear udder, however the rear udder can not be held up into the escutcheon where it should be, due to the fact her rump is just too narrow. Also those teats being set so wide can make her more prone to mastitis, or high cell counts from rubbing on the legs. She has nice capacity to the fore udder, although I would like to see it a bit fuller out to the sides. Over all a very promising young doe. For breeding selections, look for bucks who improve rumps.
Entry # 29
7th generation Lactation: 1 Owner comments: First lactation, single doeling. Already drying up in these pictures.
Evaluator comments: I’d like to see a bit more correct head and ear on this doe, at 7th gen. In the head she is quite narrow and the muzzle is shallow in the lower jaw with a tight nostril. Also would like to see the ear longer, with more of a bell shape. She has a nice long lean neck that blends nicely into a very correct shoulder assembly from both the side and the front. She has nice depth of chest floor, extension of brisket and depth at the point of elbow. The forelegs are placed properly under the wither and she has nice balance and length to the canon bones. Very correct pasterns and hoofs. She appears to have a nice straight back, which is long and matches her neck and leg bones, however her rump is extremely short from hip to thurl in comparison, so that is also causing her rear legs to be too far out behind the pin bones. She has length of body, however is lacking the feminine shape to her body with no depth in the flank. From the front view she shows nice balance and depth, with straight forelegs. Over the tops she has a correct front end, with nice shape to the fore ribs, smooth crops and she even has nice width to the loin, however she is more narrow in the rump than she is in the chest and the rump is extremely short. The rump does appear to have the thurls placed somewhat correctly, they could be higher, however they are not too low. In her rear legs rear view picture she shows great strengths, with the rear legs very perpendicular with nice flat, long bones. In the mammary system from the rear udder she lacks some width to the top of the udder, however she does appear to have adequate area of attachment. In the udder floor she is actually showing how too much medial cleft can be detrimental to overall capacity to the udder floor. Also she lacks delineation of the teats from the udder floor and placement of the teat could be more medial. In the fore udder, I know she is not very productive here, however she really lacks the extension laterally of the fore udder. For breeding selection look for correct rumps and udder qualities as well as persistence of lactation.

Evaluator comments: Very nice long lean neck on this doe. She also has a nice angle to the shoulder from the side. Although her shoulder assembly is fairly correct from both the side and front, the fore leg is not placed correctly and she really lacks fullness and depth to the chest and extension of the brisket. Her forelegs are straight and placed well apart from the front, however she is just a bit shallow and also very downhill to the withers at this stage of growth. The forelegs are nice and straight from the side, however she is lacking some length to the canon bones, both fore and rear. She does have a very nice wither and back. Her rump is extremely short from hips to pins, and the thurls are a bit low. Over the top she shows great shape to the fore ribs, full crops and nice width to the loin, however her hips are too narrow and the rump is too short. In the rear leg rear view she is nice and perpendicular. In the mammary system rear udder she is lacking the balance to the width of the udder from top to bottom with the escutcheon lacking the arch shape to the top. She shows nice capacity and productivity to the mammary system, however I would like to see the medial suspensory a bit stronger and the teat placement more medial. She has a nice fore udder with a lot of capacity and fullness to the sides. For breeding considerations look for bucks with good stature and rumps.

Evaluator comments: Nice neck into wither on this doe, into a correct shoulder angle from the side. Nice prominent withers with correct placement of the foreleg under the withers. I would like to see her deeper in the chest floor with more depth to the heart girth. Also would like to see the canon bones both fore and rear be longer. She has a nice strong straight back, however I would like the rump to be longer from hip to pin with the thurls set higher. She is really high in the dorsal process. Front view would like to see the front end a bit more balanced in width from top to bottom, with more depth and width to the chest. Her forelegs are nice and straight and wide apart. Her rear legs are nicely angled in side view, however I would like to see them more perpendicular in rear view with less tendency to turn in at the hock. She does have a nice pasten length and hoof shape. Over the top I would like to see her fuller in the crops and wider in the loin. Over the top it shows how the rump is more narrow than the shoulders and too short. In the mammary system I would like to see more balance and symmetry to the udder from the side and also the rear. She is narrow at the top of the escutcheon. I would like to see more strength to the medial suspensory ligament and the teat placement more medial. In the fore udder she is really lacking the lateral fullness and support to the fore udder. For breeding considerations use a buck with strong dairy strength and mammary systems.

Evaluator comments: Very nice side profile on this doe. Her neck could be a bit longer and tie into the wither a bit cleaner, however she has nice stature and length of body with a strong straight back and nice length to her rump. The forelegs show great length of bone pattern and are nice and straight from the side and front, however would like to see the forelegs placed more under the wither. She is lacking some depth of chest and depth and fullness to the heart gierth. Front end front view I would like to see the front end more balanced, with more width to the top of the shoulder and more depth to the chest. She is very correct in the straightness of the foreleg and the width between them. In side view she has great length of body and also shows increasing depth to the flank. She has exceptional rear legs from both the side and the rear. Very nice length of pasterns and hoof shape. Over the top you can see how prominent she is at the point of shoulder and she lacks some shape to the fore rib. I’d also like to see her loin a bit wider at the junction of the hip. I’d like the hips to be wider as well although she has very correct thurl placement. Rear legs rear view are very perpendicular with clean thighs and flat bone. In the mammary system I would like to see more balance of capacity from the side. In the rear udder she is lacking area of udder attachment to the lateral rear udder, as well as lacking width to the top of the udder in the escutcheon. She does have a very nice shape to the udder floor with good medial suspensory. I like the delineation and shape of the teats, however they need to be more medial. In the fore udder she is really lacking capacity and extension to the fore udder. For breeding considerations focus on mammary system and front end assembly.
